Pilgerhaus Tabgha

At the place of the multiplication of loaves and fishes

The enchanting landscape on the north-western shore of the Sea of Galilee invites for walks, retreats and contemplation. The large grounds offer plenty of space for a break to rest body and soul. A separate pilgrims’ path leads through fruit and olive plantations to the Church of the Multiplication with its famous mosaics. Also the Chapel of St. Peter’s Primacy – the place where Jesus is said to have appeared to the disciples after his resurrection and to have dined with them – is within walking distance.

Another path leads to Capernaum, one of the most important places of Jesus' activity in the Galilee. Remains of an old synagogue are found here and a Byzantine church from the 5th century, built on the so-called "House of Peter". It is believed to be one of the first meeting places of the Christians of Capernaum. Archaeologists discovered layers dating back to the 1st century.

Within walking distance also lies the Mount of the Beatitudes, 100 meters above the lake.
